Seyyed Hassan Khomeini visits Vatican Embassy in Tehran to offer condolences on Pope Francis' passing

The late founder of the Islamic Republic Seyyed Hassan Khomeini visited the Vatican Embassy in Tehran to offer condolences on the passing of Pope Francis.

In a meeting with the Vatican Ambassador on Wednesday,  Seyyed Hassan Khomeini stressed the need of strengthening ties between Islamic seminaries and the Christian centers in Vatican.


"God willing, the relationship between the Catholic Church and the Qom Seminary will also be stronger than before."


The reputed Muslim scholar referred to Pope Francis's visit to Iraq two years ago and said this could provide a foundation for deep and close relations.


 Seyyed Hassan Khomeini emphasized that we should also become more familiar with Christianity by reminding that Shia Muslims community has a great capacity for communication with followers of Christianity and the Catholic Church.


The ambassador, for his part, said that in my meeting with some other professors in Qom, he had also shared some opportunities for professor exchange with them.


 The envoy, however noted that perhaps the current type of relations with the West has caused some obstacles in strengthening of bilateral ties

On the occasion of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, we honor the memory of that great man and with full respect we seek God Almighty to elevate his ranks and reunite him with the saints and the righteous.


Undoubtedly, future generations, as those who understood his days, will remember his greatness and services with fondness.


 It is worthy to mention that Dr. Mohammad Moghadam, Mohammad Ali Rahmani, and Javad Imam were also present at the meeting.
