On May 23, 1982, (3rd of Khordad, 1361) the city of Khorramshahr was liberated after 578 days of occupation by the Iraqi Baath regime during the eight-year war imposed by the dead dictator of Iraq, Saddam Hossein, against Iran.

The liberation of Khorramshahr was one of the most important goals of the Jerusalem operation in 1361 (1982).

The saga of the liberation of Khorramshahr in all its dimensions, including military, epic, and cultural, is an important milestone in the history of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, and the anti-dominion spirit of the Iranian nation is stronger today.

Liberation of Khorramshahr” is a turning point in the history of eight years of Sacred Defense (Iraqi imposed war against Iran in 1980-1988) and a model of resistance of the noble Iranian people against Iraqi Ba’ath regime.

The founder of the Islamic Republic said that God the Almighty had extended assistance in liberating the Iranian border port city of Khorramshahr from the occupation of enemy’s forces.

Congratulations and thousands of congratulations to you the dear troops of Islam on this great victory achieved by the grace of God. We had insignificant losses and endless booty while thousands of the wretched, devious troops of the enemy who were either deceived or coerced by the Takriti Saddam, this super criminal of the time, were killed, wounded or held captives.

Iranian soldiers put an end to the 575 days of the Iraqi occupation of the city through a landmark operation codenamed Beit ol Moqaddas. A large number of Iranian volunteers joined the country's armed forces to defend their country against the aggression, under the leadership the late Imam Khomeini.

The Islamic revolution strengthened the cause of oppressed people and nations and made them learned how to defend themselves against tyrants and aggressive powers.

The great spiritual leader of the Islamic world had also predicted that those who were supporting Saddam should expect one day that this stupid dictator will also turn against them.

Imam prediction came true years after Saddam invaded some more Arab regional countries.
