From Imam Khomeini's perspective, defending Islam and the Islamic society is one of the main goals of the revolution, and if Muslims are concerned about the economic or spiritual domination of the enemy, he considers these matters obligatory, and this defensive thought of the Imam goes beyond the scope of Muslim nations and includes other nations as well. Regarding the armed forces as the defensive pillars of society, the Imam advises and says:
"The armed forces, from the army and the IRGC, the gendarmerie and the police to the committees, the Basij and the tribes, have a special characteristic. These, who are the strong and powerful arms of the Islamic Republic and are the guardians of the borders, roads, cities and villages, and finally the guardians of security and peace for the nation, should be the subject of special attention by the nation, the government and the parliament."
