After his speech at the airport, the Imam was urged by some prominent individuals not to proceed to the Behesht-e-Zahra Cemetery from where he was to speak to the nation. They argued that it was dangerous. Among them were Ayatollah Montazeri and Ayatollah Taleqani who urged the Imam to go straight to his residence—and so did the martyr Ayatollah Beheshti. However, after they had all expressed their opinion, the Imam rejected them and asked me: “Where is the car? I have given my word to the people that I would go to the Behesht-e-Zahra Cemetery.” And so he did. In the Behesht-e-Zahra Necropolis, the Imam was almost crushed by the crowd after his speech and was taken ill but by the Grace of God, it all ended well.
