Masses to attend late Ayatollah Tabasi’s funeral

Senior officials and public masses are set to attend the funeral of Ayatollah Vaez Tabasi who passed away on Friday.

The funeral service for senior Iranian cleric is scheduled to be held on March 05 and is expected to be attended by a large number of people from various walks of life.

Ayatollah Tabasi, the custodian of Imam Reza Holy Shrine, died at the age of 80 in the northeastern city of Mashhad.

He had earlier been admitted to Imam Reza hospital in the holy city of Mashhad due to respiratory complications.

Following the departure of the veteran cleric, leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, President Hassan Rouhani, Seyyed Hassan Khomeini, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and several other individuals and institutions have issued separate messages of condolences.

The senior cleric was directly appointed to the position by Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic. Tabasi had served as the custodian of Astan Quds Razavi charity foundation since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

The foundation which oversees the holy shrine of Imam Reza and various related institutions.

Each year, millions of pilgrims from across Iran and other parts of the globe visit the holy shrine to pay homage to the eighth Shia Imam, one of the descendants truthful successors of the holy prophet of Islam.
