#KhomeiniForAll: Netizens worldwide honor Imam Khomeini on 36th anniversary of his passing

Ahead of the 36th anniversary of the passing of Imam Khomeini, the architect of the Islamic Revolution and founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, tributes have been pouring in across social media platforms.

The hashtag #KhomeiniForAll, launched by the India-based organization Hussaini Movement, is once again trending this year, like in the past years.

Now in its eighth year, the campaign began on Monday and will continue through June 8, drawing thousands of participants worldwide, according to a statement from the organizers.

This year, #KhomeiniForAll has gained traction across diverse regions, including India, Iran, Europe, Nigeria, and several countries in Asia and Africa.

Posts under the hashtag feature quotes, tributes, archival footage, and reflections on Imam Khomeini’s ideological legacy, his philosophy of resistance, and his influence on global Islamic movements.

Joining the campaign, the social media account of the Imam Reza Shrine shared a tweet on Monday quoting Imam Khomeini: “Do not oppress, nor be oppressed.”

The official page of the campaign also tweeted a tribute to the greatest champion of the oppressed.

“Imam Khomeini's unwavering support for the oppressed remains an inspiration for all, urging us to continue the fight against injustice and inequality,” it said.

The Iranian Embassy in New Delhi also took to X to remember the great Iranian leader.

"Attach yourself to that endless sea of divinity. Attach your hearts to the source of all good. Everything is from God. He is everyone for everyone. All victories are achieved by God's will," it quoted Imam Khomeini as saying on September 17, 1979.

A social media user, Ali Reza, described Imam Khomeini as “the man of the millennium.”

"Nations should not wait for others to come and make things good for them. They should rather rise and decide their own destiny," he quoted the late founder of the Islamic Republic as saying.

Nigeria-based activist Al Aqeel also expressed his admiration for the late Imam’s political principles.

“Imam Ruhullah was a man of robes, reason, and rebellion. He did not come to rule, but to remind; to awaken hearts dulled by despotism, to revive a faith trampled by thrones, to lift a people who had forgotten how to say "No" to injustice," he wrote on X.

The Hussaini Movement, with chapters across multiple countries, is organizing a range of online and offline events as part of the global campaign to promote the message of the iconic Islamic revolutionary leader.

These activities include digital posters, livestreams, and webinars aimed at fostering collective remembrance and engaging especially the youth in understanding Imam Khomeini’s enduring influence, the organizers said.

Iranian embassies, cultural centers worldwide, and prominent public figures are also participating in the worldwide social media campaign.

Scholars, activists, and religious leaders have contributed personal reflections and academic discussions highlighting the continued relevance of Imam Khomeini’s vision in today’s socio-political landscape.

Imam Khomeini passed away on June 3, 1989, after a brief illness. Nearly four decades later, his life and legacy remain a powerful source of inspiration for people around the world.
