The late Hojjat-ul-Islam Wal-Muslimin Mohtashamipour relates in his memoirs: Those who were passing away would have a Fatiha recited for them. The Imam would only attend one session if necessary. However, when the late Ayatollah Saeedi was martyred and the Shah's regime tortured him to death in prison, the news reached Najaf and a revolution was created among the spiritual brothers. It was also clear from the Imam's interactions how much the Imam suffered and was affected by this incident. The longest Fatiha in Najaf Ashraf was for the late Ayatollah Shaheed Saeedi, which lasted for about forty consecutive nights. It is noteworthy that, first, after the students received the Fatiha recited, the Imam paid their expenses.Secondly, although the Imam usually attended only once for each deceased, he attended these meetings every night, which encouraged us and we were happy that this Fatiha was of interest to the Imam.
